Forest School at Whistlewood Common is run by Derby Forest School who offer various sessions throughout the year. The Ofsted registered Nature Nursery caters for children aged 2.5 upwards in Derbyshire Term times and the popular holiday club operates Monday – Thursday in most school holidays for children aged 5-11 years. In addition they offer a parent and toddler group, sessions for home educating families and can also be booked for woodland parties.
Forest School is a unique approach that enables children to develop confidence, independence, resilience and creativity through interactions with nature and real life experiences. Whistlewood is a fantastic place for Forest School adventures and children participate in campfire cooking, shelter building, pond dipping, bug hunting, nature crafts, games, stories and much much more! They can explore the willow dragon, pick fruit from our orchard and rest in a hammock in our beautiful woodland. Children are supported by experienced and qualified Forest Schools Leaders and of course learn about all the wildlife, flora and fauna that makes Whistlewood its home.
