Whistlewood can accommodate both off-grid camping and Yurt Hire and has a beautiful Camping field in which our Yurt sits, surrounded by trees, with views of the surrounding countryside.
Close to our composting toilets, communal fire pit, barbecue and kitchen facilities there is the following which is also included in your hire:
- access to our Covered Shelter
- access to our Natural Play area for your children with Willow Dragon
- ten acres of space to explore!
Our 16 ft Yurt sits in a dell in the camping field. It is fully furnished with a couch that converts to a double bed for couples. It has a log-burner to keep you cosy warm and a bundle of firewood is included in the hire price. There is a fireguard which you can use to keep your little ones safe.
It can accommodate more: sleeps 4 adults comfortably, 6 if you are great friends and could accommodate a party of 2 adults and 6 small children if you are feeling brave for a children’s overnight party!
You would just need to bring the bedding for the bed and any additional blow-up/camp beds you require.
Our Yurt is normally available for hire during April to October (weather dependant). If you are looking for hire at other times please do contact us and we will see if we can accommodate your needs.
Our Yurt also makes a lovely space for a small meeting, class, therapy session, etc. It can seat 8 – 10 people in a circle. Please click here to find out about the current rates for daytime hire of our Yurt. For daytime hire we can accommodate your needs 12 months of the year!

We are relaxed as to where tents can be pitched and you can even hire and bring in glamping solutions for your event or hire our tents (you would need to erect and take down the tent) if you are new to camping and would like to give it a go.
For those who are keen campervanners we can accommodate you too. A camper van is treated like a camping pitch for pricing.

Prices quoted are per tent/campervan not per person. If you have a tent that sleeps more than 7 people then you would need to pay for 2 camping pitches.
We generally look for an enquiry for at least 4 tents and/or the Yurt being hired to open the site for hire overnight. Please do enquire though if you would like to pitch one tent and we could see how this could be accommodated with other campers
Check in is normally at 4.30 pm and check-out is 10.30 am the following day. If you would like longer on site we can certainly see if this can be accommodated and we would then quote you an hourly rate for the additional hire. We can sometimes accommodate more than one night of hire.
We set aside at least one weekend a year for dedicated family camping. This is where no other events are held over the weekend, Whistlewood literally becomes a campsite for the weekend and you can stay as long as long as you like over that weekend. Please look out for this weekend being advertised on our shop.
Will there be others on site?
There could be. If you would like to enquire about exclusive hire then please do so. The exclusive rate is equivalent to the hire of the Yurt and 7 tents/campervans or, if you would prefer to just stay in tents, then it is the equivalent of 12 tents/campervans. If your requirements are for more tents or a party greater than 50 people then please contact us for a separate quote. If you are holding a celebration party in the evening of your hire that is likely to be greater than 50 people of which some will camp overnight then please contact us for a separate quote. Exclusive hire would mean that you have the site to yourself during the times described above.

The rate quoted above can be paid in instalments if booked in advance (usually no more than 2 but please enquire). If the booking is made less than a month before then full payment will be required to secure a booking.
If you wanted to extend your stay (either before the 4.30 pm mentioned above or the following morning after 10.30 am ) then the price for exclusive hire on top of the rates quoted above would be:

Please note that this is more challenging for us to meet your needs on Saturdays as we have regular fortnightly volunteering but it is often very possible to extend the stay on the Sunday.
Wood is included in the price for exclusive overnight hires and for the wood-burner in the Yurt.
It is not included in the price quoted for Camping and camper vans. If you would like wood provided for your hire then an additional £7 for a reasonable amount of wood for our Barbeque and Fire Pit is available. Please let us know of your requirement when booking.
To fit in with our ethos we encourage you to think about how you will minimise rubbish during your hire, we do not have a rubbish collection so any rubbish produced will need to be taken off site.
If you are having a celebration overnight party, we are more than happy for you to decorate the shelter. We discourage the use of balloons on site because of their effect on wildlife but do encourage the use of lots of paper decorations!
Please bear in mind if you are thinking of amplified music or other equipment that requires electricity that we are off grid and, therefore, do not have any plug sockets! Any equipment to provide amplified music would need to be organised by yourself. We have a strict 11 O’clock curfew for amplified music that is part of our planning permission, helps to look after our human neighbours and the wildlife that we are custodians of on site. We do encourage acoustic music after 11 pm around our campfire though! If you are thinking of having amplified music during your hire you would need to let us know as we restrict the number of nights per year where amplified music takes place.
We have a rainwater collection system but recommend that all water is boiled before drinking. You may wish to bring some drinking water for your hire.
We do not have showers at Whistlewood – if you are staying longer you may wish to bring washing equipment.
